How to remove canonical url in wordpress

In this article, we’ll show you how to remove canonical URL from your posts and pages in WordPress using Yoast SEO plugin. Simply install the Yoast SEO plugin on your site and disable canonical URLs under the Advanced tab on its settings page. What are Canonical URLs? Canonical URLs are used to prevent duplicate content issues. They tell search engines which pages should be used as the original source of information so that they get indexed instead of other duplicates. Let’s go ahead and learn how to remove canonical URL in WordPress  using Yoast SEO plugin.

Open the WordPress dashboard

Select Settings from the menu on the left side of your screen. This will open a new page where you can edit various settings for your website, including the option to disable canonical URLs for all posts and pages or just those that have content duplication error

Search for Yoast SEO in the search bar. You can also install it directly from here by scrolling down to a button that says “Install Now”.

  • Activate the plugin.
  • Once activated, select Yoast SEO from the main navigation bar
  • Navigate to the SEO section of your site.
  • Click on the Advanced tab.
  • Select the Canonical URL’s option from this list and uncheck the box next to it.
  • Click Save Changes

If you’re using a free version of this plugin, you won’t see it.

To get to that option, click on “SEO” in your dashboard, then select “Advanced” from the menu that appears. A new page will load with several options for you to choose from—feel free to play around with these settings as much as you like!

  • Select Canonical URL’s option and uncheck the box next to it.
  • Select the option from the drop down.
  • Uncheck the box next to it.
  • Click Save Changes and you’re done!

Then select whether or not to block all search engine spiders from indexing your home page or posts by default. In most cases, it’s best to leave this option enabled so that only human visitors see the most recent version of each post as soon as they’re published.
